Overview: The Ethics of Science and Engineering
In this letter you will write from the perspective of a French scientist. Before being drafted into WWI, you worked in a laboratory with a team that was contracted by the French government to develop and weaponize poison gas. Prior to being drafted, you believed your efforts were a patriotic use of your talents to boost France's standings in the global arms race. Now that you've been in the trenches and have seen the terrible effects of this poison gas, you feel compelled to write a letter to a French government official arguing the ban against certain weapons in war and the ethics of scientific engineering.
